Becoming a Professional

Becoming a ProfessionalWith the introduction of an additional year to the medical curriculum in 2010, a new first-year 32-credit module-Becoming a Professional (BAP) was introduced, spanning the whole academic year. In 2011 the academic facilitation and coordination of the BAP was taken over by the Discipline of Public Health Medicine. Because first year medical students have no clinical background, the emphasis of this module is to introduce them to the psychosocial determinants of health and ill-health. Contributions to this module are given by academics from the Departments of Family Medicine, Public Health Medicine, Occupational Medicine and Environmental Health, Clinically Applied Psychology.
